Position Overview

QinetiQ US is seeking a highly motivated Principal Mechanical Engineer, who will be responsible for the design, development, analysis, and design maintenance of military and commercial hardware products. Products include ruggedized military electronic equipment for maritime applications, robotic ground vehicles, vehicle autonomy hardware and ground robots. Acting as a technical lead supporting existing and new products, the candidate will evaluate design changes, perform design and analysis tasks, plan and oversee design tasks, review and approve design documentation at our Franklin, MA facility.

Responsibilities

  • Electromechanical design, layout, modeling and production support of electro-mechanical assemblies and electronics packaging (using Solidworks and/or CREO).
  • Analysis of complex mechanical systems via ANSYS Workbench implementing both explicit and implicit modeling to study vibration, shock, fluids, Fluent, structural loading, and thermal responses / performance of the system.
  • Implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) practices.
  • Create/update detailed designs and drawings for fabrication.
  • Interface with customers and vendors on a project engineering level.
  • Writing design specifications, reports, and proposals.
  • Presenting technical  internal and customer presentations.
  • Perform tolerance analysis, check and approve detail designs and drawings
  • Provide technical guidance to vendors and manufacturing in the build of DoD electromechanical assemblies.
  • Disposition discrepant material, author fabrication deviations for suppliers, support assembly personnel in support of manufacturing military electronic equipment.
  • Must support both Devens and Franklin facilities.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance if required.

Required Qualifications

  • 10-20 years’ experience in mechanical design.
  • Direct project engineering or technical lead experience managing design tasks
  • Experience performing Finite Element Analysis
  • Design of maritime systems and hardware
  • Design of robotic systems and hardware
  • Capable of following mechanical programs from inception through system integration
  • Capable of leading design teams of up to 6 engineers/designers
  • Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, machining processes
  • Knowledge of stage-gate and design cycle processes
  • Experience with welding standards and practices.
  • Experience in processing Engineering Changes to documentation on DoD programs.
  • Mechanical Engineering BS (or equivalent), MS preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Experience with Ansys Fluent and CFX is desired.  Ability to develop analytical models for both forced and free convection systems in Excel or MathCAD.
  • A strong understanding of structural systems, DOD shock/vibration and system dynamics is desired.

 

Pay Transparency

The salary range for this role is $130,000- $155,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. QinetiQ US considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
