Position Overview

QinetiQ US is seeking a Senior Space Systems Engineer to provide technical and programmatic support to a Department of War client located in Chantilly, VA.  The highly motivated candidate will provide leadership and guidance through knowledge, experience, and their ability to effectively provide Systems Engineering and integration support to multiple space based  Research, Development and Technology projects. 

 

The Senior Space Systems Engineer should have expertise in either terminal seeker systems or Guidance & Control Systems to include associated software/firmware algorithms.  The  Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA)’s primary responsibilities are to guide and support multiple programs through development and expansion from project initiations to development and into testing. Other Responsibilities include 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, integration, and verification of complex space-based systems, often in mission-critical environments. 
  • Define, allocate, and maintain technical requirements for space based systems, payloads, or ground systems, ensuring traceability and compliance with various performers
  • Collaborate with optical, mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to integrate subsystems into space-based platforms
  • Develop and maintain Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) models for requirements, architecture, and verification
  • Prepare technical documents, ICDs, CONOPs, test plans, and reports in support of space based RDT&E projects 
  • Advise & Assist in the Government Program Manager and engineering teams in making recommendations for design trades across the entire engineering lifecycle
  • Candidate needs to be well organized and able to interface across distributed teams to collect, organize, and provide programmatic info, technical data, briefing products efficiently.

Required Qualifications

  • Must possess a strong understanding of Systems Engineering and Technical Risk Management
  • Bachelor's of Science in Engineering, Physics or a related technical field
  • 15 Years of experience in systems engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of DoD 5000 series instructions, the Adaptive Acquisition Framework (AAF), and the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
  • 5 days a week onsite in Chantilly 
  • Ability to travel 25% to CONUS and OCONUS locations
  • TS/SCI cleared; #qinetiqclearedjob
  • Prior experience working in a multi-level security environment and supporting sensitive activities
  • Requires knowledge and experience working with systems and offices developing terrestrial and space-based military technologies.
  • Requires strong systems engineering principles, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the ability to manage requirements, risk, and performance across the product lifecycle. 
  • Requires skills in developing and presenting DoW communication products by synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP or DAWIA level 2-3 certification in Program Management, Science and Technology Manager, or Engineering
  • Prior work on a DoD 5000 Rapid Prototyping Program is desirable 
  • Master's degree or advanced degree in engineering, physics or related technical field
