Position Overview

QinetiQ US is seeking a dynamic and experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS programs at our Massachusetts locations: Franklin (R&D/Manufacturing HQ), Waltham (Engineering), and Devens (Prototype Lab/Field Testing).

This role will serve as the primary EHS resource across these sites—ensuring regulatory compliance, mitigating risk, promoting a strong safety culture, and embedding health and safety practices into daily operations. The EHS Manager will collaborate with site leaders, engineers, facilities teams, and project managers to promote environmental stewardship and maintain safe, healthy workplaces.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute the company’s EHS strategy across three MA sites in accordance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations.
  • Serve as the primary advisor to leadership and staff on all EHS matters; champion a proactive safety culture.
  • Conduct hazard and risk assessments; implement mitigation measures and monitor performance.
  • Develop, implement, and deliver training on EHS topics (e.g., LOTO, chemical safety, PPE, hot work, ergonomics, emergency response).
  • Manage incident reporting and lead root cause investigations; identify corrective/preventive actions and ensure timely closure.
  • Coordinate internal safety audits and EHS inspections; monitor and follow up on findings.
  • Maintain environmental compliance including hazardous waste, air permits, stormwater, and emergency response planning.
  • Oversee EHS metrics reporting, dashboards, and KPIs to track performance and drive accountability.
  • Partner with Facilities and Engineering teams on project safety planning and equipment commissioning.
  • Support regulatory inspections (OSHA, EPA, local fire departments) and interface with external agencies as required.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging regulations, and EHS technologies; share best practices across the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5–7 years of progressive EHS experience in a manufacturing, R&D, defense, or industrial environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, MA DEP, and local environmental and safety regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and auditing EHS programs.
  • Strong incident investigation, risk assessment, and job hazard analysis skills.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and engage employees at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with EHS software systems is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel between Franklin, Waltham, and Devens sites regularly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar certification.
  • Master’s degree in EHS, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience supporting defense-related R&D operations or government contractor environments.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, or other management system frameworks.
  • Experience managing waste programs and/or wastewater systems is a plus.
