Position Overview

QinetiQ US is seeking a Writer/Editor for the Department of Defense (DoD) Defense Health Agency (DHA) Military Health System (MHS) Strategic Communications Division. This individual will serve  within the DHA Communications Division News Center, write and edit content, and support a formal editorial planning and management process.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and edit articles on deadline and short turnarounds in support of MHS missions.
  • Collaborate with the Communications planning team to inform focus area of articles, identify subject matter experts, and determine outreach to appropriate DHA staff offices or MHS component organizations.
  • Ensure content and messaging is consistent with the strategies and objectives established by communications/public affairs guidance, plans, and directives and the DHA style guide.
  • Work closely with government team to ensure complete packages are available for posting on health.mil and tricare.mil websites.
  • Maintain news and event calendar for long range planning and allocation of communications assets, inclusive of major events across the MHS Enterprise.
  • Review content from military treatment facilities and Market communication offices for elevation to enterprise websites.
  • Update DVIDS and the Production Schedule with completed and planned articles.

Required Qualifications

  • BS degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in journalism
  • Experience managing concurrent actions to facilitate synchronization and integration processes across multiple production teams.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain Public trust; #qinetiqclearedjob
  • An understanding of how the DoD and U.S. military operates.
  • Proficient knowledge of the variety of communication channels used to disseminate content to audiences internal and external to the DoD.
  • Problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Willingness to cover in-person events at DHHQ and/or Pentagon and other local facilities as required
  • Ability to travel 2-3 x per year
  • Ability to write in AP style
  • Position is remote but candidate MUST live within commuting distance to the Washington Capital Region.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specific journalism experience directly related to writing articles
