Position Overview

Join QinetiQ as a Principal Investigator/System Architect for Naval Systems and lead cutting-edge R&D efforts to advance naval and shipboard technologies that protect warfighters and allies. In this high-impact role, you'll drive innovation, collaborate with top industry and government partners, and oversee groundbreaking projects from concept to deployment. Responsibilities

As a Principal Investigator/System Architect for Naval Systems, you will:

  • Lead RDT&E: Spearhead research, development, testing, and evaluation for naval and shipboard systems across development, production, and life cycle stages.
  • Technical Leadership: Build and strengthen relationships with internal teams, industry, and customers, championing QinetiQ’s naval capabilities.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute roadmaps for naval technologies/products, identifying strategic investments and aligning them with QinetiQ’s broader goals.
  • Team Leadership: Manage interdisciplinary teams to execute complex projects, balancing cost, schedule, and customer needs.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering, Program Management, and Business Development teams to identify new opportunities and implement technical and capture strategies.

Required Qualifications

  • A strong technical background in naval and shipboard systems, with subject matter expertise and RDT&E leadership experience.
  • Proven ability to transition technologies from early development to mature, deployable products.
  • Project management skills for navigating complex cost, schedule, and customer constraints, including defense-related programs.
  • Hands-on experience with U.S. Navy development and production processes.
  • Leadership capabilities to guide multidisciplinary teams and mentor engineers.
  • Exceptional communication and proposal-writing skills for engaging customers, delivering presentations, and securing buy-in.
  • Proficiency with tools like MS Word, MS Project, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • A BS or MS in Engineering (or equivalent) with 8-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be able to obtain a DOD Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret or Top Secret level Security Clearance.
