Position Overview

QinetiQ is seeking an automotive Paint and Powder Coating Technician to support work at a busy paint shop on our customer site at Fort Belvoir, VA. 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces to apply all types of primers and paints by use of HVLP spraying equipment (including epoxy, polyurethane, lacquers, enamels, thinners, and other military and specialty coatings such as CARC) to achieve a professional finish and exceptional quality
  • Apply powder coat to stell and aluminum
  • Prepare project’s surfaces by various methods to include sandblasting, mechanical stripping, masking when needed and cleaning/degreasing of each project to ensure proper adhesion
  • In addition to preparing and painting machine and fabrication shop parts, the painters will continue to support maintenance and repair the painting and powder coating facilities
  • Employees are given the opportunity and expected to work collaboratively in a fabrication shop team environment

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge about the surface preparation is important and knowledge about coating thicknesses, mixing procedures, drying times and cure rates, material handling, as well as the safe use and storage of all paint and powder coating products
  • Experience with the powder coating process not limited to prepping and application but also with the maintenance of equipment (Nordson)
  • Knowledge and experience with the use of safety equipment and industry standard safety protocols is a must
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense SECRET clearance
