Position Overview

QinetiQ US is seeking an experienced Firmware Engineer to work in a energetic collaborative environment, participating and leading engineering teams designing the next generation C5ISR (Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) systems for the U.S. Military at our Lorton, VA facility. 

Responsibilities

  • Architect and design sub-systems for sensor and image processing platforms under the guidance of a Senior or Principal FPGA Engineer.
  • Support existing systems, system architecture development, FPGA IP component design, associated documentation tasks.
  • Development of a new design to integration of new or existing IP into an existing system.
  • Develop requirements, test plans, and perform testing.
  • Write HDL testbenches, participate in field data collection and experimentation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Work directly with engineers in other disciplines (typically EE, SW) to support the development of new sensor technology systems.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with strong EE background, plus 2-4 years’ experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Professional experience with Xilinx Vivado design tool suite
  • Professional experience with VHDL
  • Professional experience with VHDL simulation tools (Aldec Riviera-PRO preferred)
  • Experience using Xilinx Integrated Logic Analyzer (ILA) tool to debug designs
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with “hands-on” testing and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency with use of basic diagnostics tools such as digital multimeters and oscilloscopes
  • Familiarity with mixed-signal circuitry
  • Flexible, self-starting, desire to solve any problem
  • Must be able to travel (<15%) to customer sites to support meetings, testing, and repair activities.
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a DOD Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Linux as Xilinx build platform (Xilinx tool use would be on both Windows and Linux)
  • Experience with Atlassian tools (Confluence, JIRA)
  • Experience with Git/GitLab for revision control
  • Working knowledge of AXI bus designs
  • Zynq series PetaLinux build system
  • Knowledge and experience with DOD, SAE, IEEE, and/or IPC standards
  • Experience with protocols such as CAN, SPI, RS232, I2C, USB, Ethernet, MIPI, CameraLink, CoaXPress
  • Working knowledge of one of MATLAB, C / C++, Visual C#, Python
  • Prior work in the field of image processing
